For a while, there has been speculation about what the title of Man of Steel 2 would be. It was dubbed Batman vs. Superman by most people but it was known that that wasn't the official title. Now, we know. The movie will be called Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.
When Warner Bros. were trying to figure out a name and possible names were leaked such all revolving around the main title Man of Steel: Subtitle. I said myself that they should stick with the Batman vs. Superman as the root of the title since that's what most people have been referring it to as and if you put that out plain and simple, more people will be drawn to Batman vs. Superman than let's say Man of Steel: World's Finest. It's plain, simple and gets the point across.
What I didn't expect was an actual subtitle but now it makes sense. This movie is setting up Justice League. We know Batman's in it. So is Wonder Woman and Cyborg (to an extent). So Dawn of Justice sounds like that this is definitely more than just a Man of Steel sequel. And with director Zack Snyder doing Justice League as well, it will be interesting to see the direct connections between the two films.
Hopefully, Dawn of Justice won't fall for the Iron Man 2- syndrome, most recently present in The Amazing Spider-Man 2. This is when the movie's story is pushed aside to make room for setting up the larger movie. While I liked Iron Man 2, certain story elements including the development of Whiplash was but on the back burner in favor of setting up The Avengers. Similarly in The Amazing Spider-Man 2, story elements were rushed and even scrapped in favor of setting up the larger Sony universe that will include stand alone Venom and Sinister Six movies. But maybe since Snyder will be doing both Dawn of Justice and Justice League, he can better piece the story together so that it doesn't fall for this error.
While I have my doubts about the movie, it has been winning me over recently. The release of Ben Affleck's costume design. The Bat Mobile design. The casting of Jeremy Irons as Alfred. And now this title, which I am all for. If they don't fall for the Iron Man 2- syndrome, make Gal Gadot awesome as Wonder Woman and give us a continuation of Superman's story instead of just making nods and winks towards the Justice League, then this movie can be really good.
