J.K. Simmons Joins Kong: Skull Island

Just recently we reported who the Skull Island movie focusing on the island where King Kong lives has been renamed Kong: Skull Island and moved to a different release date (read that here). Now, we have some more news on the project. We already know that actor Tom Hiddleston will be playing the movie's lead human but little else has been announced. Now we know another human actor. Spider-Man and Whiplash actor J.K. Simmons will be joining the cast of Kong: Skull Island to play one of the human characters.

Simmons in Whiplash

I think this is great casting. Obviously, we don't know what role Simmons will be playing, so it's hard to say that he's a perfect fit for the role, but he's a great talent. I first got to know Simmons from his work as J. Jonah Jameson in Spider-Man and since then have been a fan of his work. Now, he's getting a lot of attention for his role in Whiplash, which has so far gained him SAG and Golden Globe nominations and most likely an Oscar nomination (and potential win). Simmons will also be in the upcoming Terminator Genesys, so it's cool to see him be in a mix of these indie, award winning movies and these summer blockbusters.

What do you think? Are you glad that J.K. Simmons has joined Kong: Skull Island? Are you looking forward to the film? Leave your thoughts in the comments section below.
