Wrapping Up 2014: Best Trailer of the Year

With the year 2014 ending, I thought I would take some time to reflect on this past year of film and even look towards the future at what lies ahead. From the best films of the year to the God-awful bombs we all want to forget, this has been an interesting year for movies. Some of our most anticipated films have met our expectations, exceeded them or have fallen short. So as we approach the next year which will, hopefully, hold an even better year for film, let's think about and remember the best parts of 2014.

In this article, we will be back on the Best Trailer of the Year.

This is between two trailers, which are, in my opinon, the two best trailers of the year. As to which is better, you'll have to get to the end of the article for that.

Avengers: Age of Ultron

Release Date: May 1st, 2015

This trailer was breathtaking. It was almost like a miniature movie in of itself. With its tantalizingly good narration from the eerie voice that is James Spader, who plays the titular villain, Ultron. You feel the intensity as he speaks the words. Then, you have this kind of creepy rendition of a Pinocchio song that fits the mood and atmosphere of the trailer so perfectly. We get these shots of the Avengers fighting it out against Ultron's army. Every Avenger is highlighted in this trailer (except for the Vision, unfortunately). Seeing the Hulk fight Iron Man in the Hulkbuster was amazing to see, but only hinted to what's to come. And, of course, what sealed the deal was Ultron's now famous line: "There are no strings on me." It was everything you could want from a trailer. It got you excited for the movie without revealing too much. It gave you some basic story and relationship points so you get an idea of where the movie may go, but not the whole idea. And it showed some really cool action sequences without giving it all away. I must have watched this trailer at least thirty times. You can read our full article about it here

This would have clearly been the best trailer of the year, but a little movie came out with a trailer that gave it a real run for its money.

Star Wars: The Force Awakens

Release Date: December 18th, 2015

After Star Wars: The Force Awakens trailer came out, the internet broke. We got our first look at the new cast of the Star Wars franchise. The teaser showed us only a few select shot, but each shot was perfect for the trailer. It gave us very little, but enough to make everyone lose their minds! The narration was ominous and creepy, the new lightsaber was insane and this trailer had everyone talking for weeks and weeks after, including this blog. When the John Williams theme starts to play and we see the Millennium Falcon at the end of the trailer, I actually started cheering when I first saw it. Now, I haven't seen this trailer nearly as many times as Age of Ultron, but I still love it. It got me so freaking excited for this film! When we first reported it, we did our first ever breakdown/analysis where he examined the trailer shot-for-shot to see if we could piece together any kind of information about what the movie may hold in store for us. For weeks after we reported all the fan theories and celebrity talk about the trailer. You can read our full initial article about it here.

So which trailer was better? Let's break it down into a few main categories:

Which trailer got the nerds more excited?

                          Star Wars: The Force Awakens

Which trailer was more well constructed?

                          Avengers: Age of Ultron

Which trailer had better narration?

                          Avengers: Age of Ultron

Which trailer sparked more internet debate and discussion?

                          Star Wars: The Force Awakens

Which trailer had more surprises?

                          Star Wars: The Force Awakens

Which trailer had the best music?

                          Avengers: Age of Ultron

I'm going to have to go with Avengers: Age of Ultron on this one. While Star Wars: The Force Awakens did get me really excited for the film, Age of Ultron gave us so much more. It hinted at the story, gave us a great look at the the movie's villain and included so much more overall. The Force Awakens had a lot in it, but not like Age of Ultron. We can all agree these were two fantastic trailers. Many will choose Age of Ultron. Many will choose The Force Awakens. In the end, we should all be glad that we were able to see these amazing trailers for, hopefully, amazing movie to come out next year.

What do you think? Was the Avengers: Age of Ultron trailer better? Was the Star Wars: The Force Awakens trailer better? Leave your thoughts in the comments section below.
