Could Netflix's Daredevil Appear in the Marvel Cinematic Universe?

Next week will see the release of the new Daredevil TV series, streaming exclusively on Netflix, which will kick-off the start of several Netflix/Marvel series (including Luke Cage, Jessica Jones and Iron Fist). What's interesting is that Marvel is keeping these shows in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but are said to be "street-level heroes". In other words, they're going to be more brutal and violent than what we've see in the movies. And don't expect Robert Downey Jr. to show up in these series. What's also interesting is that Daredevil is rated TV-MA, the television equivalent of an R rating, which is in the total opposite direction of Marvel's some-what family friendly PG-13 films. I've made my case against Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. in the past and one of my biggest problems with it was that it simply became a big advertisement of Marvel movies. All they would do is reference the Avengers instead of making actual decent stories. From what we've seen so far from Daredevil, they are not taking that route. It is set in the same universe to avoid any confusion among fans, but they are completely different things. These Netflix shows are a lot more violent and edgy than traditional Marvel movies and we'll find out April 10th whether that's necessarily a good thing or not.

With the release of the new show on Netflix approaching quickly, the question has now become whether this Daredevil could appear in any MCU films? Since they are in the same universe, the character could appear in some of the movies, right? Daredevil star Charlie Cox was asked whether he could specifically see him in Captain America: Civil War, to which he replied:

“I’ve been reading Civil War – and Daredevil does appear in that. And look – again, just to clarify – I have not been called about that. I haven’t been invited to that party! But it would be very very cool. Just to be in the background, saying cool stuff every now and then. It would be cool to be with all those guys.”

I'm going to take the unpopular opinion on this and say that I don't want this Daredevil in Civil War. If they did it, it would be exciting, but I don't want it to happen. Here's why. Even though they are technically in the same universe, they're completely different. The style, the tone, the lighting, even the color pallet are all different. Movies like Iron Man and Guardians of the Galaxy are brighter movies that don't really push boundaries. They're more light-hearted and family friendly. From everything we have seen from Daredevil, it's different. The coloring is a lot darker. It's got a TV-MA rating, which wouldn't translate well into a PG-13 movie. The practical costume design for Daredevil may look good for this show, but standing next to Captain America's costume and an iron suit, it would look ridiculous. A cameo would be more acceptable, even if it was just Matt Murdock. If you had Murdock on the TV in a fleeting shot, that I'd be fine with. But to actually have him suit up as Daredevil and join the fight? It just wouldn't fit and I'd rather have these Netflix shows stay where they were made to be.

What do you think? Should the Netflix shows cross-over with the movies? Are you looking forward to Daredevil? Leave your thoughts in the comments section below.
