Furious 7 Crosses the $1 Billion Dollar Mark

When Furious 7 was about to come out, the prediction was that it would make anywhere from $95 to $100 million for its opening weekend. After a $60 million dollar Friday, those predictions soon changed. The film ended up making $143 million dollars its opening weekend, and that's just domestically. Within two weeks, the movie had made over $800 million dollars worldwide. Now, it has been confirmed that Furious 7 has crossed the $1 billion dollar mark in just 17 days. Not only is this an incredible feat for the film, but it breaks the record of fastest billion dollar gross. The record was 19 days, with a three way tie between The Avengers, Avatar and Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows- Part 2

I don't think anyone truly expected Furious 7 to make this much money. We all knew it was going to be big, as it kicked off the start of the summer blockbuster season. But I didn't expect it to cross $1 billion, let alone in 17 days. There's a lot of factors going into this movie making so much money. First of all, it is the seventh installment in a very successful franchise. It is also the last film for the late Paul Walker, with a very touching tribute that everyone is talking about. It also is pretty damn good. All of these are working together to make this a very successful film. This movie deserves every dollar it makes. You can read our review of Furious 7 here

Now the question has become whether the film will cross $2 billion and maybe beat out Avatar as the highest grossing film of all time. Avatar made $2.8 billion dollars, and Titanic made $2.2 billion. That's not an easy record to beat. I think Furious 7 can easily make $1.5 billion and perhaps beat out The Avengers for the third spot, but I don't know if it can make $2 billion. A week ago I would have said absolutely not, but with it making $1 billion in just 17 days, I think it's more likely now.

What do you think? Are you surprised Furious 7 has crossed the $1 billion dollar mark in just 17 days? Could it beat out Avatar as the highest grossing film of all time? Did you see the movie? Did you like it? Leave your thoughts in the comments below.
