Captain America: Civil War- Paul Rudd and William Hurt Join Cast

With the movie beginning to shoot, news about Captain America: Civil War have been dropping a lot as of late. Just the other day, we saw promo art for the Captain America (Chris Evans) and Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.) fight, as well as we learned that The Hobbit star Martin Freeman had joined the cast in an unspecified role (you can read all of that here). And with the release of Marvel's big, tentpole film Avengers: Age of Ultron (read our review here), Civil War is shaping up to be something potentially incredible and impactful for the rest of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, especially Avengers: Infinity War

The rest of the article will have SPOILERS for AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON, so if you have not seen the film, you know that Paul Rudd and William Hurt have joined the cast. Yay.

**SPOILERS**

Avengers: Age of Ultron concluded with the titular team breaking up. Thor (Chris Hemsworth), Hawkeye (Jeremy Renner), Hulk (Mark Ruffalo) and Tony all went their own, separate ways. This left Cap and Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson) in charge of the New Avengers, featuring Falcon (Anthony Mackie), War Machine (Don Cheadle), Scarlet Witch (Elizabeth Olsen) and the Vision (Paul Bettany). According to a report, all these members of the New Avengers will be returning for Captain America: Civil War, as well as Hawkeye, Black Panther (Chadwick Boseman) and possibly Spider-Man. This really opens up an opportunity to tell an "Avengers 2.5" story, with Captain America in charge of this new team. We still don't know the details of what causes the civil war, but we know it will be Cap versus Tony. What will be interesting to see is who these new Avengers align themselves with, especially War Machine and the Vision. Do they go with their team leader or their (former?) friend? That will be a dynamic I'll be very interested in seeing.

The news also came out that Ant-Man star Paul Rudd and General Ross from The Incredible Hulk, William Hurt, will be in the film as well. It has not been said how involved their roles in the movie will be, but I would expect Rudd's to be sizable. This poses two interesting questions. Ant-Man has been marketing as more of a stand-alone Marvel film, though still tying into the MCU, similar to that of last year's Guardians of the Galaxy. I had the impression that we would have to wait longer to see Ant-Man integrated into the larger, Avengers universe however I guess I'm mistaken. There have been rumors that Ant-Man will have a lot of set up to Civil War, especially since Age of Ultron clearly didn't have much when people assumed there'd be a lot of it. With this news that Rudd will be in the film, the idea of Ant-Man setting up Civil War doesn't sound so far fetched, and even makes me more excited for the film.

Now, what's interesting about Hurt joining the cast is that this is the first time one of the actors from The Incredible Hulk has been in another Marvel film. Edward Norton originally played Bruce Banner but Ruffalo took over the role for The Avengers and subsequent films. Marvel has said that The Incredible Hulk is still very much apart of the universe, but they had yet to use any of the characters or actors in the film, or even explain why Banner is going out with Black Widow in Age of Ultron when he was clearly with Betty Ross (Liv Tyler) in The Incredible Hulk. So while we already knew it, Hurt joining the cast proves not just that the film truly exists in the MCU, but that any of the actors could appear in future films, leaving villains like Abomination (Tim Roth) and the Leader (Tim Blake Nelson) to be revisited.

What do you think? Do you like that the New Avengers will be Captain America: Civil War? Are you excited that Paul Rudd and William Hurt are joining the cast? Are you looking forward to the film? Leave your thoughts in the comments section below.
