The Movie Paradise Nerd Round-Up: June 13th

In this new editorial series, I will be doing a weekly collection of all things nerdy. Some of the article will be a wrap-up of some movie news, perhaps casting rumors or images; stuff that doesn't necessarily warrant an entire article but are still important. Then the rest will be different geek culture items, such as memes or videos. I will try my best to post these every Saturday. So let's get our hands nerdy (okay, that was terrible) and check out the geek picks of this week.

The News

It has been revealed that the long-lasting rumors that Academy Award nominated actor Chiwetel Ejiofor will play the villain in Doctor Strange are true. Not only will Ejiofor be in the film, but he will play Baron Mordo who, in the comics, is a rival sorcerer to Stephen Strange. Traditionally, Baron Mordo is white. If the rumors about Tilda Swinton playing the Ancient One are true, then that will be two characters in Doctor Strange that are race and/or gender switched. I'm not saying that's bad, I just find it interesting. But I love the casting of Ejiofor and I am really excited for this movie.

Paul Feig, director of the upcoming all-female Ghostbusters reboot, has confirmed that Thor star Chris Hemsworth will be in the film as the team's receptionist. I have to say, I love this. It would make sense, with it being an all-female team, to have a male receptionist. And who better to get than Chris Hemsworth, who is one of the manliest men right now, after being chosen by People Magazine as the sexiest man alive. The idea is hilarious, and I think it's a great way to make fun of gender stereotypes. I am really looking forward to this reboot.

After delay after delay after delay, it has finally been announced that James Cameron's Avatar 2 will be released on Christmas of 2017. That's eight years after the original film in 2009. While I'm interested in where Cameron goes with this trilogy he's filming back-to-back-to-back, this movie should have been made five years ago. I think they waited too long, and there won't be a massive interest in it. Unless if they can introduce something really extraordinary, like the original did with making 3D mainstream, then I think this isn't going to go very well for anyone.

The Other Sh*t

Now that we got the news out of the way, let's take a look at some other fun stuff that come to symbolize what it means to wear your nerd badge with pride.
