First Trailer for Joy

Between The Fighter, Silver Linings Playbook and American Hustle, director David O. Russell has a very unique style. His films are beautiful from a visual standpoint, and he has seemingly mastered how to have his characters have scenes of dialogue overlapping each other, resulting in an orchestrated beautiful mess. I have really come to appreciate him as a writer and director. That is why I have been very interested in seeing his new film Joy, which comes out later this year. The movie reunites Russell with his Oscar nominated Silver Linings Playbook cast of Jennifer Lawrence, Robert De Niro and Bradley Cooper. It centers on several generations of women and tells the true story of how one, named Joy (Lawrence) came to become the head of the family and become a successful entrepreneur, by inventing the Miracle Mop. I had every reason to by excited for this film. And now we have a teaser trailer.

While I am still very much interested in this movie, I didn't care at all for this teaser. I didn't really like the music choice, as it wasn't a good fit for the trailer or the material, in my opinion. I did like what the beginning of the teaser was trying to say- this is how your life is supposed to be. But then it became just a series of shots and images that really had no meaning, or showed any kind of insight into the story or the characters. Now, it is important to keep in mind that this was a teaser trailer. Although I really detest the idea of movies that aren't blockbusters or related to any kind of previous material having teasers. What exactly are they teasing? Anyways, this is a teaser, so a more in depth trailer should be coming relatively soon, and I'll be very interested in checking it out.

What do you think? Did you like the trailer for Joy? Are you looking forward to the film? Leave your thoughts in the comments section below.
