Weekly Box Office Round-Up: Hold Onto Your Butts, Because Jurassic World Took it Again

This weekend, Terminator: Genisys and Magic Mike XXL opened in theaters. Let's take a look at this past weekend's box office.

**Note: Both Terminator and Magic Mike opened on Wednesday. The numbers below are for their weekend income, not since Wednesday. Though I will state how much they have made domestically since Wednesday**

#1 Jurassic World- $30,900,000

In its fourth week, Jurassic World came in first place. There is just no stopping this movie. This is its fourth consecutive week being number one, and it is the biggest domestic gross of 2015, having made over $550 million dollars. I thought this could be the week that it was dethroned, but apparently nothing is strong enough to beat it yet. It's looking like more and more this could be the second highest grossing film of the year, behind Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens, of course. #2 Inside Out- $30,105,000

In its third week, Inside Out came in second place. This film came right up behind Jurassic World, getting closer and closer to topping it. It's been doing wonders at the box office, having made almost $250 million domestically so far. It is doing fantastic at keeping its own while the monster that is Jurassic World is dominating the theater. It just proves to show that Pixar is a powerful studio and that a good movie can propel you heavily at the box office. You can read our review for the movie here

#3 Terminator: Genisys- $28,700,000

In its opening weekend, Terminator: Genisys came in third place. The movie opened on Wednesday, and has made $44 million in total so far, which is still not good. For a $150 million dollar movie, that is a really disappointing opening. But leading up to the movie's release there has been a lot of negativity. The critical reviews have been awful, and there is still a lot of grudges against the movie's marketing for revealing a significant twist. It seems like all of that combined has led to a poor opening weekend and, most likely, a very poor theatrical run.

#4 Magic Mike XXL- $11,600,000

On its opening weekend, Magic Mike XXL came in fourth place. This movie also opened in Wednesday, so its total domestic income right now is $27 million. But considering how positively received the original one was, it's surprising that XXL didn't do better. On its opening weekend, Magic Mike made $39 million, which is a huge difference from what XXL did, even if you consider the Wednesday opening. Maybe it will pick up more in the coming weeks, but it looks like XXL will end up dying off.

#5 Ted 2- $11,000,000

In its second week, Ted 2 came in fifth place. The comedy sequel has been falling considerably behind the original's box office run. Ted 2 has made just over $50 million, while Ted had made more than that in its opening weekend. It seems like what made everyone want to see the original has kind of died off with the sequel, resulting in a mediocre theatrical run. It'll be interesting to see what director Seth MacFarlane does after this, since now two of his three films (A Million Ways to Die in the West and Ted 2) haven't done well at the box office.

To re-cap, #1 was Jurassic World, #2 was Inside Out, #3 was Terminator: Genisys, #4 was Magic Mike XXL and #5 was Ted 2

Next week, the animated film Minions, the Ryan Reynolds/Ben Kingsley sci fi film Self/less and the horror found footage movie The Gallows. I think Minions will be number one with Jurassic World in second.
