Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens- New Images Revealed
My most anticipated film for the rest of 2015, and I think anyone else would agree, is Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens. It is just a few months away, yet we still know literally nothing about the movie. In an age where studios rush to jam-pack every plot point and money shot they can into their trailers, it's refreshing to have a film that understands the purpose of a "teaser". All we have seen is glimpses. Glimpses at characters and scenes, and we don't know how it comes together. We don't even know the plot of the film. That's what makes it so exciting. At the same time, we are just a few months away, so marketing is going to start gaining momentum pretty soon. And it already has.
The Force Awakens is front and center of the next Entertainment Weekly issue, revealing twelve new images, which you can view below:
EW cover featuring Kylo Ren (Adam Driver)
Rey (Daisy Ridley) and Finn (John Boyega)
Rey with new droid BB-8
Boyega and a fallen Tie Fighter
Director J.J. Abrams and Ridley on set
Driver as Kylo Ren
Driver as Kylo Ren with Stormtroopers
Captain Phasma (Gwendoline Christie)
General Hux (Domhnall Gleeson)
Poe Dameron (Oscar Isaac)
R2-D2 and C3PO (with a red arm)
Abrams and writer Lawrence Kasdan on set
These images look incredible. I love the look of Kylo Ren: his design is fantastic, along with his badass new lightsaber. It's also great to see the return of R2-D2 and C3PO, and seeing the red arm confirms the rumor that has been going around for a while. The amount of practical effects and sets done for this movie have been amazing, and it really allows you to feel like a kid again. I have yet to see something I haven't liked for this movie. I really like that the marketing has been focusing on the new cast, as opposed to banking on "the return of the original cast". We haven't even (officially) seen Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill) or Princess Leia (Carrie Fisher) yet. Not only has the marketing been genius so far, but it has appropriately gotten us fans excited while also leaving so much unknown going in. I don't care if I don't know the plot when I'm sitting down in the theater. I don't need to know. I have a feeling that this is going to be a movie that resonates with fans and brings back a franchise to prominence.
