The Movie Paradise Nerd Round-Up: September 19th

In this editorial series, I will be doing a weekly collection of all things nerdy. Some of the article will be a wrap-up of some movie news, perhaps casting rumors or images; stuff that doesn't necessarily warrant an entire article but are still important. Then the rest will be different geek culture items, such as memes or videos. I will try my best to post these every Saturday. So let's get our hands nerdy (okay, that was terrible) and check out the geek picks of this week.

The News

In the beginning of the summer, Rise of the Planet of the Apes director Rupert Wyatt joined Channing Tatum's Gambit film. However, the director has now left the project. After some script revisions and budget changes, the filming for the movie was pushed from late 2015 to early 2016, which apparently conflicts with Wyatt's previous movie arrangements. Some people are saying that Wyatt's departure is a "sign" that Gambit will be bad, but I think it's simply scheduling issues, as Wyatt says it is. What will be interesting is who they bring on to replace him. But they'll have to act pretty fast, if they're still planning on shooting in a few months.

When J.J. Abrams was initially confirmed as the director for Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens, we all knew big changes were coming to his Star Trek franchise. Since then, Fast Five director Justin Lin has taken over the project, and the film was set for a mid-July release. Well now it'll be coming a little later than planned. It has been announced that the third installment, Star Trek Beyond, will be released two weeks later than previously scheduled. This is actually a good move for Paramount, as it puts the film up against easier competition than it was going against before. If Paramount thinks moving it two weeks will make them some extra cash, then good for them. I just want to see the film!

It was recently confirmed that actor Woody Harrelson, known most for The Hunger Games and True Detective, will be appearing in 2017's War for the Planet of the Apes. According to the report, Harrelson will be playing a villain called "The Colonel", which seems like he will be the leader of the militia sent after the apes at the end of Dawn of the Planet of the Apes. Harrelson is a great actor, and I think he'll be a good addition to the film. I'm curious to see who else they cast in this movie, because previous actors Jason Clarke, Keri Russell and Gary Oldman are confirmed to not be returning. It will be interesting to see who Caesar (Andy Serkis) will be siding with this time around.
