The Movie Paradise Nerd Round-Up: October 31st

Image
In this editorial series, I will be doing a weekly collection of all things nerdy. Some of the article will be a wrap-up of some movie news, perhaps casting rumors or images; stuff that doesn't necessarily warrant an entire article but are still important. Then the rest will be different geek culture items, such as memes or videos. I will try my best to post these every Saturday. So let's get our hands nerdy (okay, that was terrible) and check out the geek picks of this week.
The News

A remake of the 2011 Indonesian action film The Raid has been in the works for a while, with actor Frank Grillo and The Expendables 3 director Patrick Hughes attached to make the film, backed by Screen Gems. However, two of those names have now left. Hughes and Screen Gems have reportedly left the project, with only Grillo remaining, and the future of the remake in question. I have yet to see The Raid films, but from the clips I have seen online-- it is some of the best action I have ever seen. I…

What Do the Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens Pre-Sale Numbers Mean?

Image
Last Tuesday, the last trailer for Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens was released ( which you can see here), alongside the beginning of pre-sale tickets being available. Not only was the trailer fantastic (you can read our analysis/breakdown of the trailer here), but the pre-sales broke records. The Force Awakens made $6.2 million from IMAX tickets alone. The highest pre-sale record before was a three-way tie between The Dark Knight Rises, The Avengers and The Hunger Games: Catching Fire with $1 million. That means The Force Awakens beat the record by six times for IMAX screenings. Fandango and AMC were also reporting that their records was beaten by eight and ten times. These numbers are astounding. But what exactly does it mean?
Earlier this month, I wrote an article asking just how much The Force Awakens will make in total. You can read that article here. I said that I thought it had a chance of beating Avatar's $2.8 billion dollar record, but it would be a hard feat to…

Beasts of No Nation SPOILER-FREE Review

Image
Beasts of No Nation is a very interesting film, and not just because the subject matter, but what the film itself represents. This is the first movie Netflix has produced as a studio, and it sets a precedent. In order for a movie to be recognized by the Academy, the film must play in Los Angeles and New York for at least seven days. So Netflix put Beasts of No Nation in theaters for the minimum requirement in order for it to be eligible for Academy Awards, and then streamed it on their online service. This establishes a whole new way for movies to reach audiences. It also goes against the (as of yet accurate) stigma that straight-to-home-video films are bad. Beasts of No Nation is a really good movie, and though I would have preferred to experience it in a theater, watching the film in my living room was perfectly fine as well.
The film focuses on Agu (played by newcomer Abraham Attah), who lives in an African nation ravaged by civil war. After being separated from his family, Agu is…

Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens- Trailer 3 Analysis/Breakdown

Image
The third and final trailer for Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens has finally been released, and it has led to much speculation and rumors on the Internet. There's so much to digest and comprehend in this new trailer, which is why we will be breaking down and analyzing the trailer shot-for-shot and speculating as to what may happen in the film. You can see the new trailer here, as well as read our editorial on how much money The Force Awakens could make at the box office here. With that out of the way, let's break down this trailer!

And here is our opening shot of the trailer, featuring Rey (Daisy Ridley) dressed in full gear.

This scene definitely has an Indiana Jones feel to it. Rey is exploring the ground. Whether she is specifically looking for something or if she is just scavenging is up for debate.

I will be saying this more than once, I guarantee it. The cinematography in this trailer is absolutely beautiful!

It looks like Rey is exploring the inside of the Sta…
