First Trailer for The BFG
I just saw Bridge of Spies last month (you can read our review here), and even though I didn't like it, Steven Spielberg is still one of the greatest directors working today. He is incredibly talented, and has created some of the best, most classic movies of all time. So when I heard Speilberg was directing The BFG, I was very excited. I used to read the book by Roald Dahl as a kid all the time, and it is a great story. This is perfect material for Speilberg, as he knows how to do family-friendly and magical films well. Just look at movies like E.T., The Adventures of Tintin and Hook-- something like The BFG is right in Speilberg's wheelhouse. And now we have our first trailer for the movie.
I really liked it. It definitely is a teaser trailer, so we don't really get much. Rather, this is more of an introduction to the film, and I like it. You get a sense of the tone and feel they're going for with this movie, and it feels right for the source material. The special effects weren't great, but they still have until next summer to improve upon them. I think that, in the end, The BFG, can be a great adventure movie, and have a lot of heart. This can be a really great, fun, family movie, and Speilberg is just the guy to bring it to life.
