Alien: Covenant- Trailer 2

Image
I am a big fan of the Alien franchise. The first Ridley Scott film is a fantastic, slow burn horror film. The second James Cameron movie is a terrific action movie. I try to forget that the third and fourth films exist. When Scott returned to do Prometheus, I thought it was overall a mixed bag. There were some excellent parts to it, and there were some not too excellent parts. Ultimately, what people didn't like about Prometheus was that it asked more questions than it answered, when fans were looking for more of a conclusion. With Alien: Covenant, I think Scott has really taken people's criticisms to heart. That first trailer he put out on Christmas Day was chilling, and it looked like a return to form for not just the Alien franchise, but for Scott as well. But while that teaser was fantastic, I've been wanting to see a full-length trailer. I want to get an understanding for the larger scope of the story, because the first trailer did look a lot like a shot-for-shot rem…

Get Out SPOILER-FREE Review

Image
Get Out is a film that I've been cautiously optimistic for. First of all, it comes from Jordan Peele, who is making his directorial debut with this film. I think he and Keegan-Michael Key are brilliant comedic actors, but I didn't know how Peele would fare with directing, especially with a horror film and not something exactly comedy related. Secondly, I was mixed on the trailer. It was weird and strange, and I didn't necessarily know what to think of it. The premise sounded fascinating, but I wasn't sure exactly how the film itself would turn out. I know our other writer, Rob, was really excited for it. You can check out his list of weird independent films here, and see where Get Out ranked on it. But even if Rob was sold on it, I wasn't as much. Then the first reviews came out, saying it was great. It stands now at 99% on Rotten Tomatoes today, but it held 100% for a long time. So after that, I went in pretty excited. And I wasn't disappointed. Jordan Peele t…

2017 Academy Award Winners: The Complete List

Image
Here we are: the 2017 Academy Awards. This is the special time that we honor all of film for 2016, and celebrate the best of the best. While 2016 had its shortcomings, it was certainly an incredible year for film, giving us destined classics like La La Land, Hacksaw Ridge, and Hidden Figures. It was tough during the nomination season, with several upsets and snubs, which was certainly present tonight during the ceremony. This article won't be about my opinions on what won and lost. I'll do a separate editorial about that later. This is simply recapping who or what won the Oscar tonight. So, let's take a look at tonight's winners:

The Movie Paradise Nerd Round-Up: February 25th

Image
Welcome to this week's The Movie Paradise Nerd Round-Up. Essentially what we do here is we take a look at all things nerdy. We break down everything in the world of nerdom, ranging from superheroes to Star Wars and every other geeky thing in between, and analyse the smaller bits of news that weren't big enough stories to necessarily warrant an entire article, but are still significant and important. Perhaps it's casting news, a contract detail, a set image, or something else that's more on the minor side, but is definitely worth checking out. Then we have a little bit of fun with some movie-related videos and clips. It's a time and place for all of us unabashed nerds to come together and talk about the things that we love so much. So, without further ado, let's get started with this week's Nerd Round-Up.

DC- Chris McKay Helming a Nightwing Movie; Matt Reeves Confirmed for The Batman

Image
The Batman has been a mess ever since Ben Affleck left as the director. After that news broke, it looked like Matt Reeves was the front-runner to replace him, but it wasn't a sure thing. While Reeves was DC's first pick, Don't Breathe's Fede Alvarez and Ridley Scott were also lined up to potentially take over. But it seemed like it was pretty solid that Reeves would end up replacing Affleck. However, out of the blue, we heard just a few days ago that negotiations between Reeves and DC had broken down, reportedly because talks had become heated. You can read our full coverage on it in last week's addition of Nerd Round-Up, which you can see here. I was really fed up, because it seems like every couple days we hear something new about what's going on behind the scenes with not just The Batman, but DC as a whole. While I was sad to see Reeves go, I was so done with The Batman and DC at that point that I didn't really care. Now, some more news has dropped conce…

Fist Fight SPOILER-FREE Review

Image
Leading up to seeing the movie, I haven't really known what to think of Fist Fight. I really like Charlie Day. I think It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia is a fantastic show, and he's excellent on it. I also love Ice Cube. He's found his stride with his explosive personality and hard-ass screen presence that really works in films like 21 Jump Street. So I was really excited to see these two work together in a comedy. However, I haven't been a huge fan of the trailers. I got a couple chuckles out of them, but they never really stood out to me as looking great. But it was the redband trailer that convinced me to check this movie out. It was by far the best trailer, despite it not being gut-bustingly funny. This being a R-rated sold me on the film, because I knew it had the potential to go to places that could make this film really funny. I don't know if I would have seen it had it been PG-13. So I walked into this movie hopeful that I would have a good time, but …

Rob's List of F*cking Kick Ass Weird Films You May or May Not Know About, Bitches

Image
Yo, it's Rob. I'm a friend of the main writer, Nate, and I'm an occasional guest writer on this site. You can check out my other collaborations with The Movie Paradise here. Let's cut down to the sh*t. I love weird movies nobody is talking about, and I would like to give them their due. I got eight to talk about, but if I think of anything else, I'll let you bitches know. By the way, I'm defining a weird movie as something nobody has really heard of, has strange trailers, and just are overall dope looking movies. Before we get started, I've got a little joke for you guys. Why do seagulls fly by the sea? Because if they flew by the bay they'd be bagels. Tell that to a girl on a first date and she'll flood the restaurant. Okay, let's get this sh*t show started. **Note: All plot descriptions are from IMDb.com**

John Wick: Chapter Two SPOILER-FREE Review

Image
I have been looking forward to seeing John Wick: Chapter Two ever since I saw the first one. I never caught the original in theaters, but I saw it on Blu-Ray and loved it. It was a breath of fresh air in the action film world, and Keanu Reeves really shined in the role. You can read my full review for the first film here. So ever since I saw the original, I've been excited for Chapter Two. And from the trailers we've seen, it looked like they were going right back to what made the first one so great. It's small and personal. Reeves isn't a superhero, rather he's just a man who's extraordinarily talented. I was also excited to hear that one of the directors of the first film, Chad Stahleski, would be returning. The direction was one of the most surprising elements of John Wick, because Stahleski and David Leitch were making their transition from being stunt men to directors. I remember thinking when I first heard this "How are stunt guys going to be able t…
