War for the Planet of the Apes- Trailer 2

Ever since Rise of the Planet of the Apes debuted in 2011, I have been a massive fan of this reinvented franchise. Andy Serkis brought such a humanity and a vulnerability to the character of Caesar, who we saw grow and evolve (no pun intended) in the sequel, Dawn of the Planet of the Apes. These films have done such a good job at being blockbuster spectacles, but while also retaining a strong emotional core. They're not like Transformers, where it's all CGI and explosions; these movies have something to say. And that's not something you would have necessarily thought the Planet of the Apes franchise to be capable of pre-2011, especially after the disastrous Tim Burton remake. Now, this summer, we have the third film, War for the Planet of the Apes, coming out, which is essentially the culmination of everything that has happened in the previous two movies. Caesar's arc is coming full circle, and we are finally leading into the world we saw in the original 1968 film. The first trailer for the film was really good. It was a tease, but it was enough to show me that we are returning to the same level of excellence displayed in both Rise and Dawn. And now we have the second trailer.

This was an absolutely incredible trailer! My jaw was open the entire time I was watching this. Once again, Caesar is the focus of the film. We are following his story. The first teaser showed shots of Caesar with weapons, going to war. However, in the previous movies, especially Dawn, it was established that Caesar is actually the one holding the apes back from exterminating the humans. So I was worried that they might compromise his character a bit in order to get the plot going. But the opening attack, led by Woody Harrelson, on the apes' base is perfect motivation to send the apes into war. It makes perfect sense. This trailer does an excellent job showing the different perspectives of Caesar and the Colonel. You can understand both points of the view, and that is no easy task to do. It really shows just how great of a director Matt Reeves is. I got a lot of shades of Captain America: Civil War while watching this, and that's not a bad thing at all. Once again, the visuals are all incredible, and the action sequences look fantastic. But I was immediately struck by just how impacting the story is, and how much it leaps from the screen. I didn't think it was possible, but I'm now even more excited for War for the Planet of the Apes than I was before!
