Brian Michael Bendis Writing Tim Miller's Kitty Pryde Movie

A month ago, we caught wind that Deadpool director Tim Miller would be helming a Kitty Pryde movie. Pryde has been played on screen in the past by Ellen Page, but there was no word as to whether Page would be returning, or if this film would recast the role. You can read our initial report on the news here. At first, I was skeptical. I love the work Miller did on Deadpool, and I am very intrigued to see what he does with the new Terminator movie coming out next year. But Kitty Pryde has never been a character I've been overly interested in. The only reason I have really liked her in the previous movies has been because she was played by Page. But there are certainly ways to write and shape a story to get me on board with a character I previously didn't really care about. So while I'm not that excited for a Kitty Pryde solo movie, the fact that Tim Miller is doing it does interest me. And now there is more intriguing news about this project.

Comic book writer Brian Michael Bendis has been brought on to make his film debut with writing the screenplay for the Kitty Pryde movie. I like Bendis a lot as a writer. One of my favorite comic book runs ever was Ultimate Spider-Man, and I thought he did a fantastic job capturing the essence of the character from the 1960's comics, while also reinventing him for the 21st Century. He has had decades of experience writing comics, so I have no concern about his ability as a writer. What I am concerned about is his ability as a screenwriter. He has never written a movie before, so of course there is built in apprehension about him doing this film. However, Bendis is set up for a better transition than most. Like I said, he's been writing comics for years. His greatest strength is storytelling. Sure, there will be a learning curve for adapting to the new medium, but I believe Bendis has what it takes. Now, there's always a chance that the movie sucks, but between Brian Michael Bendis writing and Tim Miller directing, I'm actually starting to get pretty interested in this Kitty Pryde movie. We'll have to wait and see how it turns out.

What do you think? Are you nervous at all about Brian Michael Bendis writing the movie? Are you looking forward to seeing a Kitty Pryde solo movie? Leave your thoughts in the comments section below.
