The Movie Paradise- Celebrating Four Years of Movie News and Reviews

Every year on May 18, I post an update on the site. Four years ago today, I published my first article on The Movie Paradise, and I've been doing it ever since. Running this site is an incredible privilege. It always astounds me that there are people out there who are genuinely interested in what I have to say, and that there is a community of fans ready to discuss and analyze films. Movies have always been an important part of my life, and having an outlet where I can just talk about the things I love means the world to me. This has been a great year for The Movie Paradise. We have made incredible progress in growing our base, conducting bigger interviews, and introducing new formats and editorials. This year we changed the layout of the site, designed brilliantly by contributor Connor Murphy. Our page looks beautiful, and he did a fantastic job with it. Our outreach has skyrocketed this year in particular, with our followers on our various social medias more than doubling since last May. I have had some amazing opportunities to sit down with some incredible people as well. This year, I did one of my favorite interviews I have ever done, with Tragedy Girls director and producer Tyler MacIntyre and Tara Ansley. They had such incredible insight, and I loved being able to talk with them. You can read that interview here. I was also a guest on the What I Watched Tonight Show, which was so much fun. It was great to talk movies with Matt, and I loved being on. You can listen to that here. We also introduced our new spoiler discussion series on YouTube, which I have been able to do with some great friends. The discussions we have had have been fantastic, and it's a great way for us to just talk about films. This past year has been huge for The Movie Paradise, and I could not have done it without the continuous love and support from you guys! So thank you.

Looking forward, there is a lot on the horizon for The Movie Paradise. Our YouTube presence is only going to increase. Not only will the spoiler discussions continue, but starting in the Fall I will be hosting a new show called Movie Night Tonight. It will be an hour long discussion of a new film each week, with each month having a new theme. I am incredibly excited to start it, so keep your eyes open for that. As much as I love running things through Blogger, I really would like to do more on YouTube. Right now, however, our audience is far bigger on Blogger than it is on YouTube. So if you are interested in seeing more video content from us-- spoiler discussions, editorials, video essays, etc.-- please subscribe to us on YouTube. You can check out our channel here. Once we get a stronger, more consistent following there, I will be doing a lot more content on YouTube. I am also working on a book about independent film criticism. It is a long way from being published, but I figured this would be an opportune time to announce it. The book will cover a multitude of topics, ranging from my story of how I became an independent film critic, to why movies matter, to archives of my favorite reviews/editorials/interviews I have done, to my tips on how to get started. I am not a big time pundit by any stretch of the imagination, but independent film criticism is vitally important to not just film criticism in general, but to the film industry as a whole. I believe all film fans and aspiring filmmakers will do nothing but benefit from writing consistently about film, and that is what my book is all about. It is me making a case for independent film criticism, and I am incredibly excited about the book's possibilities. Again, it is a long ways away from being finished, but I am ecstatic about its prospects. So please stay tuned for more information on that.

Running The Movie Paradise is a great honor, and these past four years have been some of the best years of my life. I wouldn't trade doing this for anything, so thank you everyone for all your support!
