Cast of Star Trek 3 Say the Movie will "Blow People Away"
One of the biggest questions right now is how good will Star Trek 3 be. The first two of the reboot/restart whatever the hell it actually is are regarded by many to be fantastic films and were directed by J.J. Abrams. However, Abrams left the franchise in order to do Star Wars Episode VII. Since then, writer and developer of the previous films, Robert Orci has stepped up as the director, only there's one problem: This will be Orci's directorial debut. There has been a history of first time directors taking on big-budgeted films and it all falls apart. This has left many to be nervous as to how good this third film will be and whether it can stand up with the previous two films. However many have claimed that Orci knows this universe the best out of anyone and has worked closely with Abrams on the last two films. Abrams is still a producer, so he can easily mentor Orci during the shoot. With all of these things up in the air, some people have made comments about the film, giving us some hope.
Karl Urban, who plays Bones, took a minute to talk about the script.
"I'm going to meet with J.J. [Abrams] in a couple of days and I’m looking forward to that. And the important thing is that it is going to be phenomenal. Based on what I hear of the concept, it’s going to rock and you guys are going to love it.”
It was nice to hear praise from Urban about the script but that's not really what people were concerned about. Orci has proven himself to be a talented writer (putting The Amazing Spider-Man 2 aside) so the script has never been the problem. The problem has been whether he can prove himself as a director. Luckily, another actor in the film, John Cho has talked about his confidence in Orci.
"I'm absolutely confident in Bob (Orci). No one knows these characters better than Bob. And no one knows the Star Trek universe better than Bob. I think he’s going to blow people away.”
These comments are reassuring, knowing that the actors have confidence in Orci. I think it's also worth pointing out that this is the third installment. This universe has already been established, which makes it a bit easier on Orci. Yet, the anticipation for this film is even higher after how good Into Darkness was.
What do you think? Can Roberto Orci pull it off? Do these comments reassure you? Leave your thoughts in the comments section below.
