Weekly Box Office Round-Up: The Fast and the Furyious
This week the new releases were Fury, The Best of Me and The Book of Life. I predicted that Fury would be number one. Let's take a look at this past week's box office.
#1 Fury- $23,702,421
On its opening weekend, Fury came in first place. With its critical praise and mostly good reviews (read our review here), the David Ayer film was able to draw in a good audience. I think it will maintain a high status for a little bit and then drop out of the top 5 as the bigger Oscar contenders get closer. We'll have to wait and see.
#2 Gone Girl- $17,511,956
On its third week, Gone Girl came in second place. The film has been doing very well at the box office, being at the top the past two weeks. The very positive word of mouth has certainly gotten people to go see it (read our review here). So far, Gone Girl has grossed over 100 million domestically, being director David Fincher's most profitable film to date.
#3 The Book of Life- $17,005,218
On its opening weekend, The Book of Life came in third place. While having some big names attached for voices and being one of the only animated films out now, it didn't do overly well at the box office. I think it will be completely gone from the top 5 list in two weeks.
#4 Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day- $11,456,954
On its second week, Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day came in fourth place. Despite having some of the heat taken off it by another kids film opening (The Book of Life), it still made a some money. However, I think it will either be #5 or off our top 5 list next week.
#5 The Best of Me- $10,003,827
On its opening week, The Best of Me came in fifth place. Movies coming in fifth place on their opening weekend usually aren't successful at the box office and are a bit rare. Ironically, The Judge did the exact same thing last week and it dropped down to seventh place this week. I think The Best of Me won't be on the top 5 list next week.
To re-cap: #1 was Fury, #2 was Gone Girl, #3 was The Book of Life, #4 was Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day and #5 was The Best of Me.
Next week, the Keanu Reeves action movie John Wick and the horror film Ouija open. I think either John Wick or Fury will be number one.
