First Trailer for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2
Guardians of the Galaxy was a surprise hit of 2014, and instantly became my favorite movie of the summer, and one of my favorites of the year. It was just such a fun and enjoyable movie. James Gunn really put such a creative twist on it, taking these characters that virtually nobody knew and making them into worldwide recognized icons. The magic and flavor he brought in creating this world was just stunning to watch. So the sequel, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, is highly anticipated for next year. We know that Kurt Russell will playing Ego the Living Planet, and will be Star-Lord's (Chris Pratt) dad. But outside of that and the knowledge that Yondu (Michael Rooker) has joined the Guardians, we know pretty much nothing about the film. Gunn has insisted that a trailer is coming soon, but it wasn't exactly how soon it would be. Our only answer was "before Christmas", which leaves a lot of extra room. But the first teaser trailer has now officially dropped online.
I liked it. It's definitely a teaser, because we don't get a lot of footage. It's basically just random shots set to "Hooked On a Feeling", which was a great touch. The Blue Swede song has really become attached to this property, so it was smart to include it in the first trailer, to make fans feel like they were right back with this world. But we mostly just see a bunch of different shots of them, potentially, walking around on Ego until the very end, when we get a conversation between Drax (Dave Bautista) and Peter Quill. Any doubts I had that Gunn wouldn't recapture the magic of the first film were instantly gone, because this dialogue was perfect. It goes right back to their dynamic as characters, and it brought a smile to my face. I love these characters and I love this universe, so it made me really happy to see that we are definitely going back to what made the first one so good. I have a strong feeling that this one could be even better than the first. But we'll have to wait and see the film to decide that. Overall, though, I liked this for what it was: a teaser.
