The Mummy- Trailer 2
I've always had mixed feelings on The Mummy, and Universal's whole Monster Cinematic Universe. While the idea is interesting, I just have yet to be sold on it. The first trailer for The Mummy was fine, but it didn't sell me on why this is something I should be rushing out to go see. The casting of Tom Cruise for a horror movie like this was always strange, and that trailer sure didn't help clear that up. It looked a lot more like Mission: Impossible 6 than it did a Mummy movie. The elements of action were a lot more apparent than the elements of horror, and for an entire cinematic universe built around classic horror characters, it just felt strange for the horror elements to be pushed to the wayside. It just didn't seem like the right direction that I thought this film should have gone in. So I've been interested in seeing another trailer, to hopefully finally sell me on this movie. I want this to be a great movie! I want this to be fun, action-packed, with a lot of great scares and horror moments. But I've just been confused as to what this movie is actually supposed to be. But now, with the release of a new trailer, hopefully some of these question can be answered.
I certainly like this trailer more than the first one, but I'm still not sold. A chunk of this trailer was simply reused footage of the airplane sequence from the first trailer, which did nothing to further sell this movie to me. We did get to see more of the origins of Sofia Boutella's Mummy, which was interesting to see. We also got more elements of the horror in this trailer, but, at the same time, even more action sequences. I just don't know if this blend of action and horror is going to work for this movie. I think the action is going to overpower the horror, and it's just not going to feel right for the launch of a Monster Cinematic Universe. The performances look fine. We got less of Tom Cruise's surprising scream in this trailer, which is a major plus. And what we saw of Boutella in action looked really good. I think the visuals for this movie are going to be great. I have no doubts about that. I'm just afraid the tone and the story aren't going to work. Look, this could end up being a lot of fun. Stranger things have happened. But from what I'm seeing, and how everything has presented itself thus far, I just don't think this movie is going to end up working out. I hope I'm wrong though, because I want a kickass Mummy movie. We'll just have to wait and see how it turns out.
