Suicide Squad 2- Gavin O'Connor Set to Write and Direct

If I haven't made it abundantly clear in the past, I absolutely hate Suicide Squad. I hate that movie with a f*cking passion. Not only is it a completely disjointed editing mess, but it is also a total disservice to its characters. The movie just takes a giant sh*t all over these characters and this source material that all we know and love. So, needless to say, I haven't been overly enthusiastic to see a sequel. Back when Mel Gibson was in talks to direct, I was interested. While I wasn't exactly excited for the movie, having a name like Gibson certainly caught my attention. But Gibson came and went, along with a few other potential directors. And this inability for DC to lock onto a director has not helped the uphill battle Suicide Squad 2 ultimately faces. But now it seems that DC has officially landed on their new writer/director, with The Accountant helmer Gavin O'Connor.

I feel the same way about this choice as I did when Mel Gibson was up to direct: I don't care at all about this movie, but the addition of O'Connor does catch my attention. I thought he did a really solid job with The Accountant. Was it the greatest movie in the world? No, but it was a good, entertaining movie that did its job. I remember, back when The Batman didn't have a director, O'Connor's name was thrown around quite a bit. And I thought he would've been a great pick for that movie. But Matt Reeves was brought on, and in retrospect he is the better choice. Whether DC heard the fans' pick, and subsequently brought him on for a different film, isn't known, but I'm glad they locked him down to do something in the DC Cinematic Universe. This brings into question when exactly Suicide Squad 2 will be coming out, as O'Connor is currently locked on to do the Accountant sequel. Last we heard, DC was looking to fast track Suicide Squad 2, so it's possible that either O'Connor will leave The Accountant 2, or that movie will be pushed back. I'd much rather see O'Connor do The Accountant 2, and I really don't want to hear that O'Connor left that film in order to do Suicide Squad 2. But whatever happens happens, I guess.

What do you think? Are you happy with the choice of Gavin O'Connor for Suicide Squad 2? What do you think will happen to The Accountant 2? Are you looking forward to seeing Suicide Squad 2? Leave your thoughts in the comments section below.
